HISTORICAL FICTION ENTRY

Long ago in 1920 when NTC was here, the recruits worked hard. I can imagine a recruit getting off for his lunch break. He goes to the cafeteria and he eats mush. Next, he wants to rest his stomach. I can imagine a recruit going to the library. He looks around for a quiet spot. He sees other recruits reading quietly. He also sees a lot of book shelves. He sits in the corner of the room. He starts reading the latest novels, newspapers, and magazines. It is quiet, the sun is shining through the windows and it is bright.His lunch break is over now. He enjoyed it. He puts the latest novel down and he now is heading back to work.

COMMUNITY CONNECTION

The Corky McMillin Event Center serves the community because people can have parties, weddings, sweet sixteens, plays, shows and meetings there. A party is when people get together and celebrate something big. Plays are when people get in costume and act on stage. A show is a performance for a play. A meeting is when people get together and talk about stuff. The Event Center it is really big and wide. It has a sound protection on the walls. There is a projector to show graphs at a meeting. It holds a lot of tables for celebrations for people to sit down and room for a dance floor. It a great place for the community because it’s big and wide and beautiful for any event.

INTERVIEW (present day worker)

Ms. Meg is the manager of the Corky McMillin Event Center. Her job is to make schedules for the Event Center.  On the day of the event, her job is to make sure the food is coming and ready. She also puts signs up. If it is a wedding or a bar mitzvah, she will make sure that the cake is ready. The Event Center is big for all kinds of events.   After the event, she puts stuff away and makes sure that there is no trash on the floor. Ms. Meg’s job is important so that the community can use it for special events.

KID CONNECTION

The Corky McMillin Event Center is a place where you can have fun! You can have parties there! Teenagers can have sweet sixteens. If you are at a party, you can see a movie or show on a big projector! You can see Tarzan or Lilo and Stitch, any movie you can imagine! You will have the greatest day of your life there! I can imagine kids watching movies and eating cake. When you get home, I’m sure you will want to go to the Corky McMillin Event Center again!
